March 2, 2022 marks the beginning of a season known by many in the Church as Lent. For many, this will be the beginning of 40 days of prayer and fasting— symbolically following Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness leading up to Easter Sunday.
Lent is a season of preparation and repentance during which we anticipate the death (Good Friday) and resurrection (Easter Sunday) of Jesus. It is this very preparation – aimed at grasping the intense significance of the crucifixion - that gives us a deep and powerful longing for the resurrection, the joy of Easter.
One way to do this is through a fast. This is where you, for a temporary time, let go of something that brings you comfort so that you can feast in a deeper way on the centrality of Jesus Christ. Whether you give up sugar, social media, or one meal a day, and whether it's a 1-day fast or a 40-day fast, that’s between you and God. Wherever you land, we pray that you would cling to Christ in a deeper way this Easter season.
To supplement your fast, we've included this Scripture reading plan.
